Rex Heuermann, suspect of Gilgo Beach, to plead guilty

Rex Heuermann, charged with the murders of seven women spanning from 1993 to 2011, is poised to enter a guilty plea during his court appearance on Long Island late Wednesday morning.

In 2023, Rex Heuermann was apprehended for the killings of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello.

Charges were also brought against him for the deaths of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Sandra Costilla, Jessica Taylor, and Valerie Mack.

Heuermann, at 62, has previously claimed innocence and communicated through his legal representative that he is eager for his day in court.

Prosecutors have indicated that Heuermann's DNA was matched with hair strands discovered on or near the victims' remains.

A press conference featuring the District Attorney and families of the victims is scheduled for 2pm.

Heuermann faces charges for the slayings of seven women, dating back to 1993. The discoveries of remains from 11 individuals occurred near Gilgo Beach in 2010 and 2011, leading investigators to suspect he might be connected to additional crimes.

Rex Heuermann was detained in July 2023. Prosecutors shared that hair evidence linked to Heuermann, his former wife, and daughter was located on belts, adhesive, and burlap found with the assumed victims.

Following his arrest, prosecutors unveiled that they utilized DNA acquired from an abandoned pizza crust retrieved from a Manhattan trash bin to establish the connection to the hair samples found on the victims.

Authorities had been scrutinizing Heuermann after a witness mentioned spotting a vehicle resembling one he owned, when victim Shannan Gilbert was last seen alive.

In official documents, prosecutors unveiled an image depicting what they termed a "plan Heuermann allegedly used to strategically execute his crimes with meticulous precision."

The document is organised into four columns labeled "Challenges," "Materials," "DS," and "TRG."

The challenges listed include DNA, tire evidence, blood traces, fingerprints, and others.

The materials involve rope/cord, cutting tools, a police scanner, hair nets, medical gloves, and so forth.

Additional notices in the plan outline, as per prosecutors, refer to categories like "initial prep," "preparation," and "after event."

The initial prep section includes vehicle check-ups, weather forecasts, and "recon using cameras."

The preparation stage calls for "arranging the setting." The after event section mentions "switch tires," "destroy gloves," and "prepare a narrative."

Rex Heuermann, aged 62, is a Long Island native. He graduated from Berner High School and resided in Massapequa Park.

The neighbourhood was shocked when authorities arrived to arrest him at the residence, where neighbors mentioned he grew up with his family.
