Jennifer Lopez revisits ‘Maid in Manhattan’ role in nostalgic tribute
The 'Ain't Your Mama' singer celebrates the story and cast behind her beloved romantic comedy
Jennifer Lopez is taking a heartfelt trip down memory lane, reflecting on one of her most beloved early 2000s roles nearly two decades after the film’s release.
The Maid in Manhattan star shared a nostalgic tribute on Instagram on April 9, revisiting her performance as Marisa Ventura, a character she says still holds a special place in her heart.
Accompanied by a carousel of behind-the-scenes photos and clips, Lopez reflected on the story’s enduring charm, describing Marisa as a determined single mother navigating a world far beyond her reach while still holding onto her dreams of something bigger.
“Twenty-something years later and I still think about Marisa Ventura,” Lopez wrote, recalling the character’s journey from the Bronx to Manhattan’s luxury hotel world.
She described the film’s central idea as a dreamlike exploration of ambition, identity, and possibility.
Lopez also looked back on the film’s development, noting its evolution from an earlier script titled The Chambermaid and highlighting the creative collaboration that helped shape the story into a modern fairy tale set against the backdrop of New York City.
The actress expressed gratitude for her experience on set, praising her co-stars, including Natasha Richardson, Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, Bob Hoskins, Tyler Posey, and Amy Sedaris, calling the production “what a movie, what a cast, what a time.”
Released in 2002, Maid in Manhattan became one of Lopez’s signature romantic comedy roles, pairing her with a star-studded ensemble and cementing the film as a fan favorite that continues to resonate with audiences more than twenty years later.
