Police arrest Jimmy Rodriguez after body found in remote desert road
San Bernardino officials confirm Jimmy Rodriguez is held without bail at present
San Bernardino County authorities have arrested a 38-year-old man following the grim discovery of a body in a remote desert location.
A citizen travelling along Gammel Road in Wonder Valley, California, alerted officials at 9:48 a.m. on Friday, 10 April, after spotting the victim.
Upon arrival, deputies found the deceased man partially seated in a wheelchair that had been left on its side.
Members of the Specialised Investigations Division – Homicide Detail noted visible trauma to the body and quickly concluded the man had been murdered elsewhere before being abandoned at the site.
The victim has been identified as a 60-year-old resident of Highland, California, though his name remains withheld pending family notification.
Detectives subsequently identified Jimmy Rodriguez of Moreno Valley as the primary suspect. Investigators allege that a physical altercation occurred between the two men in Highland, which ultimately resulted in the older man's death.
Following the fatal encounter, Mr Rodriguez allegedly drove to the desert region to dispose of the body.
Mr Rodriguez was arrested and formally charged with murder, according to a release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department (SBCSD).
He is currently being held without bail at the Central Detention Centre. The department has urged anyone with relevant information to contact the Homicide Detail at 909-890-4904.
This arrest marks the beginning of legal proceedings for Mr Rodriguez, as the SBCSD continues to gather evidence regarding the circumstances of the initial confrontation and the subsequent transport of the victim to Wonder Valley.
