Ted Ginn Jr, the former NFL wide receiver and current head coach of the Columbus Aviators, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Tarrant County, Texas.

According to reports from Yahoo Sports and NBC Sports, the 41-year-old was taken into custody at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Local police stated that Mr Ginn was stopped for allegedly failing to yield on a turn and subsequently failed a field sobriety test.

He was released after posting a $1,000 bond, just one day before his team was scheduled to face the Dallas Renegades.

Following the incident, Mr Ginn shared a statement of accountability on his X social media account. "I made a serious mistake and take full responsibility for my actions. I’ve always believed in accountability and now it’s my turn to live that standard," he wrote.

He further expressed his commitment to earning back the trust of his players and the wider sporting community.

UFL president Russ Brandon confirmed that offensive coordinator Todd Haley assumed head coaching duties for Sunday’s game, which the Aviators ultimately lost 28-23.

Mr Ginn enjoyed a prominent 14-year career in the NFL, having been selected as the ninth overall pick in the 2007 draft following a standout collegiate tenure at Ohio State.

He represented six professional franchises, including the Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints, before transitioning into coaching.

The United Football League continues to gather information regarding the situation as legal proceedings move forward in the Texas court system.
