Google's spotlight-style desktop search bar now available for Windows users

Last year, Google revealed it was trying out a desktop app for Windows similar to macOS’s Spotlight feature.

Now, this app is accessible worldwide in English. You can get the app via Google’s website, and it’s compatible with PCs running Windows 10 or later.

To launch the app, hit the Alt + Space keys, allowing you to search the web and your own files and content from Google Drive.

While looking up information, you may toggle through various options like All, Images, and AI Mode.

For inquiries about data on your computer, use Google Lens or share your display.

There's no word yet on whether this app will be launched for macOS or Linux, and Google hasn't responded to inquiries for more details.

However, word has it that they are testing a Gemini app for macOS — if it debuts, it would rival other AI chatbot programs for macOS such as Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
