King Charles returns to George Stratchan Limited during surprise Aboyne outing

King Charles surprised the residents of a small Scottish village on Tuesday with an unannounced visit to one of its oldest and most cherished businesses.

The monarch travelled to Aboyne, situated just thirty minutes from Balmoral Castle, to visit George Stratchan Limited.

The general store and newsagents, which sell food, drinks, and magazines, were celebrating their 100th anniversary.

During the outing, the King met with members of the Stratchan family and shop staff, sharing fond memories of visiting the establishment during his childhood summers spent in Aberdeenshire.

The Black Faced Sheep, a neighbouring café, captured the local excitement on social media, noting how lovely it was for the community to share in the centenary celebrations.

"What a well-deserved honor for you to have The King visit on your birthday," the post remarked. This engagement marked his Majesty’s first public appearance since attending the Easter service at St George's Chapel on 5 April.

The 77-year-old monarch appeared in high spirits as he engaged with locals, continuing the long-standing royal tradition of supporting small businesses within the vicinity of the 50,000-acre Balmoral estate.

This visit precedes an exceptionally busy schedule for the Sovereign. Starting on Monday, 20 April, the King will lead a series of events commemorating what would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday, including a new exhibit at Buckingham Palace.

Following these tributes, the monarch is scheduled to fly to the United States to address Congress and mark the 250th anniversary of American independence.
