Meghan Markle wears 'Mama' shirt with heartfelt message for California friend
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry celebrated Aboriginal culture during unique nature walk in Melbourne
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's trip to Australia resumed with a ceremony celebrating Aboriginal traditions.
On the local morning of Thursday, April 16, the duo attended the Scar Tree Walk in Melbourne. Meghan, 44, wore a casual outfit that included a heartfelt reference to a dear friend.
The Duchess was dressed in blue jeans and a long suede coat, paired with a white T-shirt that had a red heart and the word “Mama.”
This T-shirt supports the Alliance of Moms, an organization aiding young parents in Los Angeles’ foster care system.
This initiative was co-founded by Meghan’s friend Kelly McKee Zajfen, who welcomed a baby boy on March 26, four years after the sad loss of her son, George, to COVID-19 and viral meningitis at the age of 9.
Zajfen initiated the foundation’s first T-shirt campaign after his passing, and Meghan participated in its “Love Like a Mother” campaign of 2024.
The event coincides with Meghan's new venture of sharing her wardrobe insights. She recently became part of the AI-driven fashion platform, OneOff, as both an active participant and investor, offering a chance to purchase several styles she wore on the Australia trip.
The Scar Tree Walk is an initiative by the Koorie Heritage Trust, a non-profit organisation promoting First Peoples arts and culture.
The roughly two-hour walk is guided by a Koorie Heritage Trust expert, beginning with views of Aboriginal art pieces and moving to an ancient Kulin Nation gathering site.
The tour concludes at the Scar Trees, a collection of trees whose bark was historically removed by Aboriginal Peoples for crafting objects like canoes and shields.
The visit marked the third day of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's stay in Australia.
The couple landed in Melbourne on April 14, visiting the nation for the first time since their 2018 royal journey.
They stepped back from their roles as senior royals in early 2020, with this visit being made on a personal level.
Their initial day in Melbourne on Tuesday featured a stop at the Royal Children’s Hospital (a place visited by Prince Harry's mother Princess Diana in 1985) and a solo appearance by Meghan at a women's shelter.
On Wednesday, they parted ways for separate events: Prince Harry engaged with charity Movember (where he discussed his experiences with fatherhood and mental wellness) and interacted with veterans at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
Meanwhile, Meghan appeared as a surprise judge on the cooking show MasterChef Australia.
Following the Scar Tree Walk ceremony, Harry will deliver the keynote speech on workplace mental health at the InterEdge Psychosocial Safety Summit near Melbourne.
