Amy Winehouse's dad loses legal fight over £730k sale of her items by friends

Amy Winehouse's father has been unable to prevail in a dispute with two of her friends over allegations they covertly sold her belongings for £730,000.

The iconic musician’s stained ballet flats, a note from Adele and Mark Ronson, and a Fendi bracelet were among 155 items auctioned following her passing.

Mitch Winehouse, managing his daughter’s assets, pursued stylist Naomi Parry and Amy’s trusted friend Catriona Gourlay in court, asserting they owed him over £730,000.

He lost the case today after a hearing at London's High Court. The court was informed that the items were auctioned off in the US during 2021 and 2023.

Mitch testified in December, stating that the pair did not notify him of their sale intentions, leaving litigation as his “sole route to obtain answers”.

Attorney Henry Legge KC, representing the father, previously argued that Mitch suspected the individuals of “intentionally hiding” the auction of items.

However, Naomi refuted this, claiming she thought the Winehouse family “was aware I was selling items” and that Mitch was briefed in a meeting held in October 2018.

Naomi stated, “I felt, and still strongly feel, that Amy would want Catriona and me to be financially secure” and characterized Mitch's claims as “overstated”.

Naomi and Catriona both asserted that the items in question were either given by Amy or were already in their possession.

Mitch assumed all 834 items put up for sale from a London storage space were being sold under the authority of the Amy Winehouse estate.

He noted that it was branded as a “single owner” transaction by Amy's family intended to fund her foundation without mentioning any other sellers.

He accused the opponents and the auction house of “actively concealing their ownership claims” over the 155 items contested.

Amy, the reputable "Rehab" singer, succumbed to alcohol poisoning at her Camden residence in North London, 2011, at the age of 27.
