Sheinelle Jones breaks down on first birthday since husband Uche Ojeh’s death
The TV host became emotional marking her first birthday since her husband’s death
Sheinelle Jones shared an emotional reflection as she marked her 48th birthday — her first since the death of her husband, Uche Ojeh.
The Today show co-host revealed she was overwhelmed with emotion while traveling home, admitting she “can’t stop crying” as she processed the milestone without her partner of nearly two decades.
In a heartfelt message posted on Instagram, Jones described a mix of “thankful tears” and “painful tears,” acknowledging the deep loss she continues to navigate following Ojeh’s death in May 2025 after a battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Despite the grief, Jones also reflected on an outpouring of support during the past week, which included stops on her book tour for Through Mom’s Eyes: Simple Wisdom from Mothers Who Raised Extraordinary Humans.
She said the experience left her feeling an unprecedented level of love and appreciation from fans.
“I have never felt so much love in my life,” she wrote, expressing gratitude for the encouragement she has received over the past year.
The television personality’s birthday was further marked by touching tributes from her children. Her son, Kayin, called her “my world” in a social media post, while her daughter, Clara, also shared a heartfelt message celebrating her mother.
Jones later reposted their messages, responding with emotional notes about motherhood, calling it the “best job in the world.”
Her colleagues also honored her during a recent episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, where co-host Jenna Bush Hager surprised her with a birthday cake and words of encouragement, praising her strength through a difficult year.
Reflecting on her journey, Jones acknowledged how challenging the past year had been, but also offered a message of hope.
“If you’re in something, just know that there is light,” she said.
Jones and Ojeh, who married in 2007, share three children. His death came just weeks after her 47th birthday, making this year’s celebration a particularly emotional turning point.
