Boyfriend attempts to burn girlfriend alive in locked house

A North Carolina woman is in critical condition following a terrifying incident where her boyfriend allegedly poured gasoline on her and attempted to burn her alive.

This horrific act left the 36-year-old with severe burns on her arms, legs, chest, and back within a locked house, according to police and her family.

Franklin Faircloth, 29, from Roseboro, faces charges including attempted first-degree murder, first-degree arson, first-degree burglary, assault causing serious injury, and misdemeanor domestic violence related to the fire attack on April 12.

The victim is currently at a trauma center, suffering from burns that cover about two-thirds of her body.

Her family shared with local ABC affiliate WTVD that the outlook is bleak. The Sampson County District Attorney's Office has indicated that Faircloth may face first-degree murder charges if she does not survive.

The Sampson County Sheriff's Office identified the victim, but her name is being kept confidential by Law&Crime at her family's request.

"Someone attempted to kill my sister last night," wrote the victim's sibling in a Facebook post. "She was drenched in gasoline, set on fire, and trapped inside a building."

The victim reported to authorities that Faircloth allegedly "broke into her home, covered her in gasoline, and then ignited it," before escaping on a bicycle. He is also accused of setting fire to her home.

"The defendant unlawfully, willfully, and with malicious intent, burned the home occupied by [the victim]," an arrest warrant reveals. "At the time of the fire, [the victim] was inside the house."

The warrant claims that Faircloth set the victim’s "arms, legs, chest, and back" ablaze.

He was detained on April 13 and made a court appearance Thursday in Sampson County, where a bond was denied.

"We've been experiencing a whirlwind of emotions," the sister stated on Facebook. "We were present in court when her attacker was denied bond. That alone has brought us tremendous comfort. We've spent so many hours in the hospital that I struggle to remember what day it is."

Many friends and family members have been expressing support for the victim since the incident. One person wrote, "Babygirl, stay strong and come back to us!!!"

Another individual shared, "I can't stop thinking about [the victim]. Just imagining what she endured breaks my heart. I met her through work … she has always been so kind and respectful to me. Please, keep her in your prayers."

Faircloth is scheduled to appear in court again on May 8.
