Kate Middleton and Prince William witness end of era as youngest matures
Prince Louis appeared well behaved in a suit during the recent Easter service
The Prince and Princess of Wales are navigating a bittersweet transition as their youngest son, Prince Louis, prepares to celebrate his eighth birthday.
Royal expert Jennie Bond has shared insights into the couple’s emotional state, describing a "tinge of sadness" as their "baby" reaches this significant milestone.
This developmental shift marks the definitive end of the "baby stage" for the family, a period often met with whimsy by parents watching their children exert independence and grow out of their clothes.
Observations from the recent Easter service at Windsor highlighted this transformation, as the young prince appeared in a suit and tie rather than his traditional shorts.
Bond noted that the public witnessed a "very well behaved young Prince Louis" who lacked his signature mischievous antics.
Unlike previous outings where the prince was known for poking his tongue out at cameras, he now seems more conscious of the public gaze.
"Louis is probably now more aware that he is on public parade. And that could be embarrassing at his age," Bond explained, adding that the responsibility of waving to the crowds was left to Princess Charlotte.
While Prince William and Kate Middleton have likely not suppressed his spirited personality, the natural progression of age has brought a more subdued public demeanour.
The family continues to prioritise a balanced upbringing for Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis at Adelaide Cottage.
Looking ahead, the royal couple is expected to focus on Louis’s transition to his next stage of schooling.
This personal evolution reflects the broader modernisation of the monarchy as the next generation of royals matures under the public eye.
