Prince Harry makes surprise Kyiv visit to support Ukrainian veterans
The Duke of Sussex praises Ukraine’s resilience amid its ongoing war with Russia
Prince Harry made an unannounced visit to Kyiv on Thursday, using the trip to spotlight support for wounded veterans and reinforce international attention on Ukraine amid its ongoing war with Russia.
The Duke of Sussex arrived by train and was seen greeting officials and locals upon his arrival in the capital.
During the visit, he is set to address the Kyiv Security Forum, where he is expected to underline the importance of continued global backing for Ukraine.
In remarks reported during the trip, Harry said the world “sees” and “respects” the Ukrainian people, describing the country as “bravely and successfully defending Europe’s eastern flank.”
He added that it remains vital not to lose sight of the broader significance of the conflict.
The visit also highlights the work of the Invictus Games Foundation, the initiative founded by Harry to support wounded, injured and sick service personnel.
The prince said he aimed to remind audiences worldwide of the challenges Ukraine continues to face while recognising those working under difficult conditions.
As part of his itinerary, Harry is expected to show support for The HALO Trust, continuing a legacy closely associated with his late mother, Princess Diana, who famously championed the cause of landmine removal.
The duke also held meetings with senior Ukrainian officials, including Veterans Affairs Minister Natalia Kalmykova and Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. Discussions focused on expanding support systems for injured service members and strengthening rehabilitation initiatives.
In addition, Harry attended a fundraising event supporting the Superhumans Center, which assists severely wounded soldiers and aims to expand its network of care facilities.
The visit concluded with a solemn tribute, as Harry laid a wreath to honour Ukrainians who have lost their lives in the conflict.
