Florida man arrested for 1993 Bronx double execution witnessed by toddler

A three-decade-long manhunt concluded on Wednesday, 22 April 2026, as federal authorities arrested 62-year-old William Antonio Solis in Tampa, Florida.

Solis, known by the aliases "Vegano" and "La Vega," is accused of the 1993 execution-style murders of Luis Guerrero and Danis Sime in their Bronx apartment.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York announced that Solis has been charged with intentional killing while engaged in a narcotics conspiracy, a crime that carries a potential sentence of life in prison or the death penalty.

According to the indictment, Solis and two co-conspirators targeted Guerrero, a suspected narcotics supplier, for a robbery.

Prosecutors allege the group restrained Guerrero and stole drugs before luring his wife, Danis Sime, into the apartment.

Both victims were bound and overpowered before Solis reportedly shot them in the head at close range.

The horrific act took place in front of the couple’s three-year-old son. Neighbours discovered the toddler outside the home shortly after, terrified and calling for his parents.

The boy told police at the time that a man had covered his mother’s head with a pillowcase and "took her away."

U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton emphasised that "time is no bar" to justice, noting that the double murder had haunted the victims' family for over 30 years.

Solis had allegedly been "hiding in plain sight" over a thousand miles away until his capture by Homeland Security Investigations and the NYPD.

Following his initial court appearance in Florida, the case will be transferred to U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain in New York for prosecution.
