Director of ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ contemplated Adrian Grenier cameo
'The Devil Wears Prada 2' is launching on May 1 in theaters
The filmmaker behind The Devil Wears Prada 2 confesses he hoped to add a touch of Nate to the eagerly awaited follow-up.
David Frankel mentioned to Entertainment Weekly that he thought about "sneaking" Adrian Grenier into a surprise appearance. Sadly, for those hoping to see Nate again, “it was simply too late in our filming schedule to accommodate it.”
Frankel didn't reveal how he intended to fit Andy’s former chef boyfriend into the sequel, which reunited Anne Hathaway with Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci.
However, he noted, “I’m delighted that he [Grenier] did a Starbucks commercial, which was both hilarious and self-deprecating. I appreciate the modesty and humor!”
In March, Grenier conveyed to Page Six that “it was disappointing not to be contacted for the sequel, but I understand there’s been backlash surrounding Nate, the character, which might explain it. Yet, this creates possibilities for a spin-off.”
He also mentioned “we all love the film, irrespective of our participation in it.”
Throughout the years, fans on social media have criticised Nate’s self-serving behavior towards Andy, frustrated with her ambition in the fashion world.
The couple’s dynamic faced challenges in the initial film, leaving their relationship status uncertain.
Launching on May 1 in theaters, The Devil Wears Prada 2 welcomes back Hathaway's Andi, Streep's Miranda Priestley, Blunt's Emily Charlton, and Stanley Tucci's Nigel Kipling in stylish form.
Andy makes her return to Runway Magazine two decades after resigning from Miranda in Paris.
With the magazine battling to adapt to the changing media world, the duo seeks to persuade former assistant Emily, now leading a luxury brand, to invest in advertising that could rescue Runway.
