Hormonal imbalance is a common health issue affecting women of different age groups, but experts say its early symptoms are often dismissed as stress, aging, or a hectic lifestyle.
According to nutrition expert and health coach Renu Rakheja, one of the most ignored indicators of shifting hormones is disrupted sleep.
In an Instagram post shared on April 22, Rakheja explained that many women fail to connect irregular sleeping patterns with underlying hormonal changes, even though sleep is often one of the body’s first warning systems.
She pointed to several nighttime symptoms that should not be overlooked, including waking up around 3am and being unable to fall asleep again, experiencing consistently light or restless sleep, making repeated trips to the bathroom during the night, and waking up in the morning still feeling drained.
Rakheja noted that many women tend to blame these issues on routine stress or daily responsibilities, but persistent sleep disturbances can indicate that hormones are no longer functioning in balance.
Once sleep quality begins to decline, she said, it can trigger a chain reaction affecting mood, metabolism, weight, and emotional health.
Poor sleep may gradually contribute to anxiety, irritability, fatigue, and difficulty managing everyday stress, making the hormonal issue harder to identify.
To improve hormonal health, Rakheja advised women to first investigate the root cause with a gynecologist or healthcare professional.
She also recommended reducing stress, following a nutrient-rich diet, eating enough protein and fiber, limiting caffeine and screen time, staying hydrated, exercising regularly, and practicing relaxation techniques such as breathing exercises or meditation.
Her message underscores that recurring sleep problems should not always be brushed aside, as they may be an early sign that the body’s hormonal system needs attention.
