Jimmy Kimmel criticises Trump’s death joke

A day following Donald Trump's claim that Jimmy Kimmel should be dismissed due to a joke about the president's marital life, Kimmel spotlighted Trump's similar statements.

For those not acquainted with the story, Kimmel’s skit last Thursday involved him delivering his own “alternative” monologue at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, featuring archival clips showcasing the reactions of the first lady, Trump, and others.

Kimmel remarked, “Our First Lady, Melania, is in attendance. Look at Melania, so stunning. Mrs. Trump, you radiate like an expectant widow.”

Following the alleged assassination attempt on Trump that occurred on Saturday evening, the president, the first lady, and the White House Press secretary all expressed retrospective outrage.

Trump labelled the joke a “call to violence,” describing it as “extremely inappropriate.”

During his monologue tonight, Kimmel showcased a segment of Trump’s speech welcoming King Charles to the US Within, the president reflected on his mother, who admired the king, and her 63-year marriage to his father.

Trump, at 79, then turned to his wife Melania, 56, at the podium and remarked, “And uh pardon me if you don’t mind. That’s a milestone we won’t reach, darling. I’m sorry. It just won’t happen.”

Back in the studio, Kimmel appeared bewildered.

“Hold up. Did he just crack a joke about passing away? Wow. You should be terminated for that,” he quipped.

“Only Donald Trump would insist I be dismissed over a joke about his age and then make his own age-related joke the next day.”
