Angelina Jolie scores major legal win in long-running Brad Pitt winery feud
Angelina Jolie has secured legal victory in her ongoing dispute with former husband Brad Pitt
Angelina Jolie has secured a legal victory in her ongoing dispute with former husband Brad Pitt after a Los Angeles judge ruled that Pitt cannot compel her to hand over private communications linked to their Château Miraval winery battle, according to court filings.
The ruling, issued this week, found that Pitt’s legal team had not met the burden required to strip attorney-client privilege from the communications in question.
The decision means Jolie will not be required to disclose the disputed emails at this stage of the proceedings.
Jolie’s attorney, Paul Murphy, described the outcome as an important win for his client, arguing that the request for access to privileged materials went beyond acceptable legal boundaries in the ongoing dispute.
He also criticised the opposing side’s approach, saying the attempt to obtain the documents formed part of a broader effort to exert pressure in the long-running case.
A source close to Pitt, however, pushed back on that characterisation, stating that the court had left open the possibility of revisiting aspects of the ruling as the case develops and alleging that Jolie’s side has withheld a significant volume of documents on privilege grounds.
The legal dispute stems from Pitt’s 2022 lawsuit over Jolie’s sale of her stake in Château Miraval, the French winery the former couple once co-owned.
Jolie responded with allegations that Pitt had engaged in a prolonged legal campaign against her.
Since then, the case has expanded into broader disputes involving nondisclosure agreements, document access and financial damages claims, despite the pair finalising their divorce in 2024.
