Heroic German Shepherd Moses saves owner during vicious Arizona bobcat attack
Owner described Moses as an amazing and sweet dog following the life-saving intervention
A German Shepherd named Moses is being celebrated for his bravery after defending his owner during a harrowing bobcat attack in Arizona.
The incident occurred on the morning of Monday, when the owner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, was walking her pet near her home.
The woman told 12 News that the predator initially "jumped me," leading her to believe it was a coyote before the feline scratched her and forced her to the ground.
Despite her desperate pleas for Moses to "go, go, go" to safety, the loyal canine intervened in the family driveway to protect her.
During the struggle, Moses managed to neutralise the threat by breaking the bobcat's neck. "I wanted him to get away, but when I got back he had killed the bobcat," the owner recalled.
Subsequent testing by the Arizona Game and Fish Department confirmed that the animal was infected with rabies.
While Moses was previously vaccinated, he must now undergo a mandatory six-week home quarantine, while his owner continues a "painful" course of medical treatment.
The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office noted that this was one of four attacks reported within a few hours, including a Sunday evening incident that left a man with significant injuries.
Officials believe the same rabid animal was likely responsible for all local encounters. Though Moses and his owner are recovering, police have urged residents to avoid feeding wildlife and seek immediate help if attacked.
Moses continues to be described by his grateful owner as an "amazing" and "sweet" companion who prevented an even greater tragedy.
