Prince William praised Sir David Attenborough for transforming how humanity views the Earth
The Prince of Wales has led a chorus of national tributes to mark the hundredth birthday of Sir David Attenborough on Friday.
Kensington Palace released a heartwarming photograph of Prince William and the legendary naturalist sharing a light-hearted moment, captioned simply: "Happy 100th birthday, Sir David."
The image, depicting the pair smiling and laughing together, quickly drew thousands of affectionate responses from the public.
During a star-studded gala at the Royal Albert Hall, Prince William delivered a moving speech, stating, "It is a rare privilege to celebrate a century of life. But it is rarer still when that person has transformed the way we see the only home that we have - Planet Earth."
He further commended Sir David’s "boundless curiosity, gentle wisdom and unwavering dedication," describing him as a pivotal influence on his own children.
Buckingham Palace also honoured the broadcaster, with King Charles III featuring in a whimsical film titled 'A Very Special Delivery'.
The monarch, who has known Sir David for over sixty years, shared a handwritten card carried by a relay of British wildlife.
The palace’s official social media handle added, "Wishing Sir David Attenborough a very happy 100th birthday. Enjoy your special celebration this evening!" Sir David, born in 1926, remains one of the world's most influential conservationists and writers.
His prolific career includes seminal works such as A Life on Our Planet and the groundbreaking Life series.
