Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor learns of Princess Eugenie's pregnancy via call from Sarah Ferguson

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was informed about becoming a grandfather for the fifth time not directly by his daughter, but rather during a phone chat with his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, according to a source.

The 66-year-old ex-Duke of York learned about Princess Eugenie’s third pregnancy from Ms. Ferguson, who was one of the first to hear the news of the upcoming Baby Brooksbank.

"Andrew learned he was going to be a grandparent once again through Sarah," the source mentioned to the Mail.

Instead of reaching out to her father herself, Eugenie had her mother convey the joyous news, leaving Ms. Ferguson with the task of delivering the announcement about the baby expected in the summer.

According to the source, Eugenie has had minimal interaction with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor since his royal titles were withdrawn and he moved out of Royal Lodge in Windsor.

Despite their divorce in 1996, Ms. Ferguson and Andrew have stayed in consistent contact, even though they currently reside in different parts of Europe.

The former duke is presently living at Marsh Farm Cottage on the Sandringham Estate.

On the other hand, his former wife is located thousands of miles away in Austria, where she is staying at an alpine chalet with a nightly rate of £2,000.

The former Duke of York hasn’t publicly addressed the exciting news about his youngest daughter.

Ms. Ferguson was last seen in Austria last month and has not been in the public eye since.

Neither Andrew nor Sarah has made any public statements about the upcoming arrival of their third grandchild, a stark contrast to five years ago when Ms. Ferguson graced a magazine cover celebrating August's birth, posed with a horse at a luxurious Berkshire hotel while promoting her first novel.

Buckingham Palace announced the pregnancy through a social media update on the official Royal Family account on Monday.

The announcement read: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr. Jack Brooksbank are thrilled to share that they are expecting their third child, due this summer.

“August (aged 5) and Ernest (aged 2) are also thrilled to welcome another sibling into the family.

“His Majesty The King has been notified and is very pleased with the news.”

Along with the Buckingham Palace statement, Princess Eugenie posted on Instagram: “Baby Brooksbank due 2026!” accompanied by a photo of her sons, August and Ernest, holding the ultrasound image from her scan.
