Malin Akerman hints at 'wilder' season 2 of 'The Hunting Wives' with 'unexpected twists'

Malin Akerman is thrilled for fans to witness the "unexpected turns" in season two of The Hunting Wives.

Akerman, now 47, takes on the role of Margo Banks, leading a dynamic cast including Brittany Snow, Evan Jonigkeit, Katie Lowes, Dermot Mulroney, and others.

The plot thickens as Snow, 40, portraying Sophie, relocates to Texas aiming to join a clique of East Texas socialites—only to face drama when a teenage girl named Abby is found dead.

While at the Calamigos Ranch Resort & Spa event to honor Leading Hotels of the World's Accreditation in Malibu, California, on Friday (May 1), Akerman exclusively discussed with PEOPLE what to anticipate in the second season of the show.

“I feel like we've chatted about it because it seems a bit more thrilling than the first season, featuring numerous unexpected twists, which is absolutely delightful," mentioned Akerman.

"Going through the scripts was a joy for us, and I'm sure it will be an exciting journey for viewers too," she added.

This upcoming season aims to explore deeper into her character, Margo's, history while continuing the enigma after Abby's murderer was exposed in the closing episode of the first season. The storyline description reads, “Sophie and Margo are at odds. Yet eventually, past secrets and new enemies bring them together again. As they engage in risky ventures, the question remains: Are they predators or prey?”

Although their characters clash, Akerman and Snow share a strong bond in real life — united by their passion for true crime podcasts. "Brittany is absolutely wonderful," Akerman revealed to PEOPLE.

"She's genuinely one of my closest friends now. It feels natural that after having a romance onscreen, you become best pals," she elaborated.

"She's truly a fantastic person. I really cherish her. It's like having a sisterly connection, and she's like family to me now. I'm so grateful to work with her regularly.”

During the October 2025 She Sees Me: The Power of Female Friendship (in Life and Art) panel, Akerman shared that there were "quite a few nerves" before she and Snow performed "intimate" scenes for the series.

"Before filming our first significant scene together, nerves were high, and we're often caught up in critiquing our bodies in mirrors, noticing all our perceived flaws, and it's disheartening," she expressed. "And we experienced this recognition in each other as we exclaimed, 'Oh my goodness.' "

Akerman shared with PEOPLE that stepping into the second season feels "much more comfortable" now that the team has a stronger grasp on the show's vibe and vision.

“Knowing the direction we're heading, being familiar with the show's tone, understanding our characters, and having an audience that truly enjoys the series — all of these aspects," she explained, adding, "And working with this fantastic crew alongside our cast has made the experience incredibly rewarding.”

Although there's no official release date for The Hunting Wives season 2 yet, showrunner Rebecca Cutter previously stated she's thrilled to "take the audience on another wild, eccentric, thrilling adventure through Maple Brook."

Season 1 of The Hunting Wives can currently be streamed on Netflix.
