Husband accused of killing wife over ignored back pain in front of their three children

A Texas man informed authorities that he shot his wife "because she didn't take my back pain seriously," with officers reporting he fired at her while their three children were inside the house.

Jose Romero, age 43, faces a murder charge for the May 2 incident. His wife, Yanira Marin de Romero, age 39, was in a dispute with him when Romero shot her multiple times in the bathroom of their Harris County residence, as mentioned in a police press release.

The pair lived in Cloverleaf, part of the Houston area, and after Marin de Romero's death, family members on Facebook referred to their union as seemingly "ideal."

"Our hearts and family are broken, struggling to accept this truth," a family member posted on May 4. "They were what I’d call an almost perfect couple," the relative stated. "They were with each other since they were young and progressed together. They were the pride of our family."

As reported by the CBS affiliate KHOU, the couple's three children — aged 3, 8, and 13 — were present at the scene when the shooting happened around 1pm that Saturday, but were not harmed. Marin de Romero succumbed to her injuries at the location.

Romero purportedly contacted 911 himself, stating "I just shot my wife," according to the police report.

"When deputies arrived, they located [Romero] and arrested him without resistance," the report indicates. "Romero explained to homicide investigators that he shot and killed Yanira Marin de Romero because she dismissed his back pain."

Family members stated on Facebook that what they are "enduring" has been "extremely difficult." The children's parents "won't be together anymore," the previously mentioned loved one said.

"[Marin de Romero] may have left this world without comprehending what occurred at that moment," the relative shared in a post.

Romero remained in Harris County Jail through the weekend.
