Michigan woman shot dead while fleeing ex-boyfriend in front of 10-year-old daughter
Gregory Davis was sentenced to life without parole for the 2023 murder of Annie Namou
A Michigan man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend outside her workplace in front of their 10-year-old daughter, prosecutors said.
Gregory Keyier-Deniro Davis, 46, was convicted in April on multiple charges, including first-degree murder, in connection with the 2023 killing of Annie Namou, according to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office.
The sentencing was handed down on Monday following Davis’ conviction in Oakland County court.
Prosecutors said the fatal shooting took place on May 20, 2023, in the parking lot of a car dealership in Royal Oak Township where Namou worked.
Authorities alleged Davis followed Namou to her workplace before using his vehicle to block her car and prevent her from leaving the lot.
According to prosecutors, Namou eventually managed to get out of her vehicle and attempted to flee for help, but Davis opened fire as she ran away. He then allegedly shot her again at close range using a 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun.
Investigators said the couple’s 10-year-old daughter witnessed the killing from the passenger seat of the vehicle.
After shooting Namou, Davis also fired at other individuals nearby before later surrendering himself to authorities the same day, prosecutors said.
In addition to first-degree murder, Davis was convicted on several other charges, including possession of a firearm by a felon, four counts of felony-firearm, felony assault, assault with intent to commit great bodily harm and habitual offender — fourth offense.
Following the verdict, Karen McDonald said the case underscored the dangers many women and children face in abusive relationships.
“I thank the jury for delivering justice for Annie Namou and her loved ones,” McDonald said in a statement released after the conviction.
“Children and women, like Annie, are too often endangered by intimate partners, and it is unacceptable,” she added. “We will never forget her and never stop fighting for victims of intimate partner violence.”
