Short-seller Andrew Left's trial entourage includes 'Entourage' creator
"Entourage" creator Doug Ellin attended the securities fraud trial of Andrew Left
Andrew Left's gathering on Thursday at his securities fraud trial in Los Angeles featured a notable personality from "Entourage" — Doug Ellin, the mind behind the acclaimed HBO series.
Ellin was seen by Business Insider in the courtroom, observing as the prosecution presented its arguments against Left. The prominent short-seller faces charges of market misrepresentation and misleading retail investors, reportedly profiting more than $20 million.
Ellin conveyed to Business Insider that his purpose there was to stand by Left, whom he described as a "close companion." He pointed out that Left was actually referenced in the "Entourage" series, which aired from 2004 to 2011, chronicling the journey of emerging movie icon Vincent Chase and his entourage.
A brief investigation revealed a nod to Left in a third-season episode of "Entourage" that Ellin might have been alluding to. In "Sorry, Ari," there is a moment where Chase considers meeting a prospective agent, unnamed on screen but identified as "Andy Left."
The real Andrew Left gained notoriety as a short-seller, targeting firms such as Valeant Pharmaceuticals and GameStop.
Left was indicted on securities fraud charges in 2024. Thursday marked the trial's fourth day, and it's anticipated to extend over a span of three weeks.
