Star’s wife criticises ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ for ‘brutal’ actor edit
Adrian Grenier's role in the 2006 film 'The Devil Wears Prada' encountered comparable criticism
The spouse of "The Devil Wears Prada 2" star, Patrick Brammall, is openly defending her husband's character against the negative reception it received.
Brammall takes on the role of Peter, who is Andy's romantic interest in the continuation of the 2006 film "The Devil Wears Prada."
However, critics have not warmed to his character, deeming Peter superfluous and not a match for Andy, portrayed by Anne Hathaway.
Brammall’s wife, actress Harriet Dyer from Australia, responded to a Cosmopolitan magazine Instagram post on Tuesday that criticised Peter. The magazine commented, “A sequel that is nearly flawless being marred by a redundant man? That seems probable.”
Dyer expressed that it was the way Brammall’s character was edited that was at fault.
“Unkind post. They edited out scenes. The editing was harsh,” she expressed.
She also noted that the photos Cosmopolitan used of Brammall and Hathaway happily posing in public in New York were from a scene that unfortunately didn’t make the final cut.
“I was fond of him,” she remarked about her husband. “That’s why I married him.”
Brammall and Dyer got married in March 2021, having been a couple since 2017. They adopted their daughter Joni in 2021 and welcomed their daughter Mabel in February 2025.
In a Cosmo article titled “Andy’s One-Dimensional Boyfriend Is an Insult to Single Women Everywhere” released last week, the writer criticised Peter's character for being “as simple as they come,” though acknowledged it wasn’t Brammall’s fault.
“No criticism to Patrick, he was scripted that way,” the writer mentioned.
The writer believed Andy shouldn’t have been in any relationship due to the film's primary focus on her career path.
“Why in 2026 do we still feel uneasy about a woman who is happily single and without children?” they mused.
Andy’s boyfriend from the original film, Nate — played by Adrian Grenier — has received a fair share of criticism from fans over the years, with some labelling him the true antagonist for his lack of support for Andy.
Page Six spoke with Grenier in March, who expressed his “disappointment” for not being included in the sequel.
“But I do comprehend there’s some negative sentiment towards Nate, the character, which could be a factor,” he shared with us.
Nonetheless, he remains optimistic about further opportunities for his character, adding, “However, this could pave the way for a spin-off.”
