Amazon MGM confirms auditions underway for next James Bond

Amazon MGM Studios has officially launched the search for the next James Bond, confirming that auditions for the iconic 007 role are now underway as the franchise prepares for a new era on screen.

The announcement marks a major step forward in the long-anticipated return of the spy series following Daniel Craig’s exit after 2021’s No Time to Die, which concluded his run as Bond with the character’s on-screen death.

Studio bosses have not yet revealed a successor, but confirmed that casting is actively in progress as they look to reshape one of cinema’s most enduring roles under their new creative direction at Amazon MGM.

In a statement, the studio said, “The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”

According to industry reports, acclaimed casting director Nina Gold has been brought in to oversee the selection process, adding further momentum to the high-profile search.

Gold is known for her extensive work on major productions, including Star Wars, The Martian, and Les Misérables, and is expected to play a key role in identifying the next actor to step into the tuxedo.

The upcoming film, often referred to as Bond 26, will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with screenplay duties handled by Steven Knight, signalling a major creative shift for the long-running franchise.

Amazon MGM executive Courtenay Valenti previously told CinemaCon that while fans are eager for casting news, the studio is taking a careful and deliberate approach.

She said the team is committed to treating the role with “care and deep respect,” describing the next installment as a “dream of a lifetime” and a responsibility they do not take lightly.

Speculation around potential candidates has intensified in recent months, with actors including Damson Idris, Jacob Elordi, and Callum Turner among those frequently mentioned in industry chatter.

The Bond franchise entered a new phase after Amazon MGM assumed greater creative control last year, following the long-standing stewardship of producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

Villeneuve has previously said he aims to honour the legacy of the character while expanding its future, describing Bond as “sacred territory” tied to his earliest cinematic memories.
