Hilary Swank shares how becoming a mom reframed her view of everyday life

Hilary Swank has reflected on how motherhood has reshaped her perspective on life, saying becoming a parent has given her a “life-changing” reminder to slow down and appreciate everyday moments.

The 51-year-old Oscar winner, best known for Million Dollar Baby, shares twins Aya and Ohm with husband Philip Schneider, whom she welcomed in April 2023.

Speaking to People, Swank said one of the most profound lessons she has learned since becoming a mother is seeing the world through her children’s unfiltered curiosity.

“I really like watching them learn about the world and being reminded that they don’t have any pre-context of anything,” she said.

Swank explained that young children experience life without assumptions or expectations, something she says adults often lose over time.

“We have this predisposed idea of everything that we come into contact with because of what we’ve learned, or how we’ve read about it, or how someone taught us,” she added.

According to the Freedom Writers actress, her twins approach the world with a sense of openness that constantly challenges her own way of thinking and encourages her to question familiar assumptions.

Alongside the emotional insights of parenting, Swank also spoke about the realities of balancing her acting career with raising young children.

She admitted that staying present as a working mother is more difficult than expected, but said she actively works to remain engaged in the moment with her family.

“It’s much harder than one would think,” she said, noting that being fully present brings a sense of calm that outweighs daily stress.

The Ordinary Angels star added that she is mindful not to lose that grounding feeling as she continues to navigate both motherhood and a demanding career, describing it as an ongoing effort to stay connected to what matters most.
