New York Man Accused of Fatally Stabbing Girlfriend Found in Car at Gas Station
A New York man has been charged with second-degree murder after his girlfriend, a 30-year-old mother of three, was found unresponsive inside her car at a gas station and later died, authorities said.
The Suffolk County Police Department confirmed that 40-year-old Michael McHenry was arrested on Saturday, May 16, and formally charged the following day in connection with the death of Juliann Bachmann.
Police said Bachmann was discovered injured and unresponsive around 7:25 a.m. at a gas station in Yaphank, New York. She was transported to a nearby hospital in Patchogue, where she was later pronounced dead.
According to a criminal complaint cited by the New York Post, prosecutors allege McHenry stabbed Bachmann in the neck and chest inside her vehicle before dragging her out and fleeing the scene.
Investigators said bystanders called 911 during the attack, but the suspect allegedly escaped before police arrived.
McHenry was apprehended roughly 12 hours later and arraigned on Sunday. He is currently being held without bail.
Authorities have not publicly released a detailed motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
At a vigil held Sunday, Bachmann was remembered by family and friends as a devoted mother whose life was deeply rooted in her children.
Her sister, Kristen, described her as someone who believed she had found love with McHenry, but said the relationship ultimately turned tragic.
“She thought she would find some sort of love with him,” Kristen said, adding that the loss has devastated the family.
She also spoke emotionally about Bachmann’s children, saying her sister would continue to watch over them.
“She’s going to be looking over each and every one of us, including her babies,” she said.
