Michigan boy returns home after losing both arms in pit bull attack

A Michigan family is caring for their 6-year-old son at home after he lost both arms in a devastating pit bull attack earlier this year, a case that has drawn widespread attention and support.

Romell Frazier Jr. was attacked by two pit bulls on March 19, according to a GoFundMe set up to assist his recovery.

The incident left the child with catastrophic injuries, including severe damage that ultimately led to the amputation of both arms.

He also suffered injuries to his legs and developed multiple infections during his treatment.

Following the attack, Romell spent nearly two months in intensive care, undergoing several surgeries as doctors worked to stabilize his condition.

His mother, Preshauna Jones, told ClickOnDetroit that the recovery process has been both emotionally and physically overwhelming.

“I thought it was over. But my baby stayed in there. He never left,” she said, reflecting on her son’s fight to survive.

Due to the amputations, Romell is no longer able to perform basic daily tasks independently.

His mother said she now has to assist him with feeding and other essential needs.

“Now, I have to feed him. He was just able to do all of that on his own,” Jones said. “I have to be his hands and arms. And it's just a constant reminder, every day, of the day that this happened.”

Doctors say the child will require ongoing medical care, including potential prosthetics and further procedures as he continues to recover at home.

A fundraising campaign launched to support his treatment and rehabilitation has already raised more than $25,000.

Jones said the suddenness of the tragedy has been difficult to process. “Everything was OK, and in the blink of an eye, everything is just different now,” she said.
