LG announces the first gaming monitor with a native 1000Hz refresh rate at 1080p resolution

LG has not revealed pricing or an exact release date beyond a second half of 2026 launch window for the monitor

LG announces the first gaming monitor with a native 1000Hz refresh rate at 1080p resolution

LG has unveiled what it says is the first gaming monitor capable of a native 1000Hz refresh rate at 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, potentially resolving a long-running compromise for competitive gamers who have had to choose between refresh rate and image quality.

A meaningful step beyond previous 1000Hz displays

The LG UltraGear 25G590B is a 24.5-inch IPS display that sets itself apart from earlier 1000Hz monitors, which have so far been limited to 720p resolution at best. LG says the monitor is built for esports competitors — whether they play first-person shooters or other fast-paced titles — who require the absolute maximum in responsiveness.

The announcement raises familiar questions about perceptible difference. The debate over whether players can actually feel the benefit of higher refresh rates was already active when displays hovered around 360Hz and 480Hz — yet the bar continues to rise.

Design and features

LG says the 25G590B features a minimalist stand, a built-in hook for headset storage, and customisable lighting. Pricing and an exact release date have not been confirmed beyond a broad "second half of 2026" window. Further details are available on LG's website.

AI-powered gaming enhancements

The monitor also incorporates on-device AI features designed to complement its high-speed performance. AI Scene Optimisation adjusts picture settings intelligently according to game genre, adding visual depth and realism, whilst AI Sound delivers a more immersive spatial audio experience and clearer in-game communication when used with a compatible headset.
