Kanye West concert cancelled amid rising European restrictions
Italy has cancelled scheduled concerts featuring Kanye West and Travis Scott over security concerns
Kanye West has suffered another setback after Italian authorities cancelled two scheduled concerts featuring him and Travis Scott, citing public order and security concerns.
The performances were due to take place in July in the northern city of Reggio Emilia as part of the “Pulse of Gaia Festival,” with Scott scheduled to appear on July 17 at the RCF Arena and West expected to perform the following day.
However, on Saturday, local prefect Salvatore Angieri ordered the cancellation of both events, pointing to risks of unrest, potential protests, and logistical concerns tied to the large-scale crowd movement expected within a short time frame.
Authorities also referenced appeals from consumer group CODACONS and representatives of Jewish communities in Modena and Reggio Emilia, who raised specific concerns regarding West’s participation.
Officials said the close scheduling of the concerts and anticipated influx of spectators within 24 hours contributed to the decision.
The cancellation adds to a growing list of European setbacks for West, who has faced repeated concert disruptions and bans in recent years following controversial public statements and backlash over antisemitic remarks.
Scott, meanwhile, continues to face ongoing scrutiny related to concert safety following the 2021 Astroworld tragedy in Houston, where a crowd crush left 10 people dead and hundreds injured.
West has previously seen other European appearances affected, including a denied entry attempt in the United Kingdom earlier this year and cancelled or postponed shows in France, Poland, and Switzerland.
Despite this, he has continued to perform in select international markets and is currently scheduled for a concert in Istanbul, with additional European dates still planned in the Netherlands.
Authorities in Italy said the decision was based on maintaining public order and preventing possible disruptions, particularly given the heightened attention surrounding both artists.
As of now, neither West, Scott, nor event organizers have issued an official response regarding the cancellation.
