Sydney Sweeney has fired back at those criticising her controversial storyline on Euphoria, offering a pointed three-word defence of her work on the HBO series.

Sweeney, 28, took to Instagram on Sunday, sharing a carousel of behind-the-scenes photographs taken on the set of the show. Several of the images show the actress posing provocatively in minimal clothing.

"It's called… acting," she captioned the post.

Cassie's season three storyline draws controversy

Sweeney plays Cassie Howard in the widely discussed drama series. Her character's arc this season has attracted considerable attention, with Cassie joining OnlyFans and appearing in a raunchy sex scene alongside a movie star played by Homer Gere, son of actor Richard Gere. Sweeney has filmed numerous topless and near-nude scenes throughout the third series.

It is not the first time her character has featured in provocative sequences. Season one saw Cassie reach a climax on a carousel ride in front of a crowd of onlookers, whilst season two featured Cassie lying nude on a bearskin rug.

This season, Cassie also weds Nate, played by Jacob Elordi, with Sweeney sharing photographs of herself in her character's wedding dress amongst the Instagram carousel.

Some critics of the show have accused the HBO series of degrading Sweeney due to the highly sexual nature of her character's storyline.

Scooter Braun stands firmly behind Sweeney

Whilst critics have voiced their concerns, Sweeney's boyfriend, music producer Scooter Braun, has made his support abundantly clear.

A source exclusively told Page Six that Braun is entirely comfortable with the scenes Sweeney has become known for on the series.

"Scooter has absolutely no issue with Sydney's more provocative scenes in 'Euphoria' or any of the work she does as an actress," the insider said. "He fully understands that it's part of her job and respects how dedicated she is to her craft."

The source added: "Their relationship is very secure, and there's a strong level of trust between them. Scooter isn't the type to feel threatened by her work or try to control what roles she takes on. He's incredibly supportive of her career and proud of everything she's accomplished."

Braun praises Euphoria's controversial new season

Braun, 44, also weighed in publicly on the show during an appearance on the Second Thought podcast last week, where he confirmed he had been watching the new series and was enjoying it.

"I am catching it. I'm biased, I like it," he said, before cheekily adding, "[There's] been an incredible performance by a certain actress."
