A community in southeast Texas is reeling after a 15-year-old boy was found dead outside a residential home late Saturday night, prompting an active homicide investigation.

The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on May 30 in the 20700 block of Stevens Road in New Caney, just north of Houston, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded after a homeowner called 911 reporting that an unknown deceased person had been found in front of their residence. When officers arrived, they discovered a 15-year-old Black teenager who appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound.

Despite emergency efforts, the teen was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

A woman who discovered the body told local outlet KTRK that she had returned home with her family late at night when she came across the scene. She said she did not recognize the boy personally but was aware that he lived in the neighborhood.

“I didn’t know him, but I’ve seen him before,” she said, adding that she immediately contacted emergency services after finding the body outside her neighbor’s home.

Authorities have not released the victim’s identity, and the circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear as investigators work to determine how he ended up at the location.

Detectives with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, along with the county medical examiner’s office, are continuing to process evidence and examine the scene as part of an ongoing homicide investigation.

Officials have not announced any suspects or motives in the case. The investigation remains active.

Law enforcement has urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers, with anonymous tips also being accepted.
