Jason Momoa praised as ‘Perfect’ Lobo ahead of 'Supergirl' film release

Supergirl director Craig Gillespie and star Milly Alcock have praised Jason Momoa ahead of his highly anticipated DC role as Lobo, calling his casting both natural and long-awaited.

Momoa, who previously played Aquaman in the DC universe, has long expressed interest in portraying the fan-favourite antihero Lobo.

According to reports, that ambition remained firm even as DC underwent a major creative reboot under new leadership from James Gunn and Peter Safran.

The actor reportedly made his intentions clear early on, even texting Gunn a blunt message: “F****** Lobo,” underscoring his determination to take on the role.

Now set to debut as Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl film, Momoa has received strong endorsement from the project’s creative team.

Director Craig Gillespie said the casting felt like a perfect fit from the start.

“I was thrilled to have him,” Gillespie told Empire. “I couldn’t imagine anybody else. But it’s a pressure… [we asked ourselves a] million questions to pay homage to the original.”

Co-star Milly Alcock also echoed that sentiment, saying Momoa’s presence made him ideal for the iconic comic-book character.

“Jason had such presence,” Alcock said. “He is Lobo. And it was exciting to see somebody living out their dream.”

Momoa’s casting marks a notable shift in the DC cinematic universe as the franchise continues its rebooted direction under Gunn and Safran, with Supergirl expected to play a key role in the new era.

The film is scheduled to hit cinemas on June 24.
