Jodie Comer praises designer Sarah Burton, calls her work 'beautiful' and inspiring
The star said she especially enjoys wearing period costumes that help her get into character
Jodie Comer has praised fashion designer Sarah Burton, calling her “beautiful” and highlighting her distinctive approach to blending masculine and feminine aesthetics in contemporary design.
The 33-year-old Killing Eve star spoke during a video interview with Women’s Wear Daily, where she reflected on her fashion influences, personal style experiences, and memorable moments from her career in costume-heavy roles.
Comer said Burton, who works with Givenchy, stands out as her favorite designer due to the emotional connection she feels when wearing her work.
“I would say my favorite designer is probably Sarah Burton at Givenchy,” Comer said. “How I feel when I wear her clothes — I love that balance of masculine and feminine, and I feel like she explores that so beautifully.”
Beyond her design work, Comer also praised Burton personally, describing her as warm, intelligent, and enjoyable to spend time with.
“She’s such a gorgeous person,” Comer said. “Someone I love spending time with — a warm, fun intellect and humour.”
The actress also looked back on her first major fashion purchase, recalling an extravagant pair of £600 Dolce & Gabbana heels she bought after seeing them in a magazine while younger.
Comer said she wore the platform heels during nights out in Liverpool, though they quickly showed signs of wear.
“They were velvet and by the end of it they had no velvet left on them,” she said. “They were like £600 and I think I spent my entire bank balance on them basically — but I got my wear out of them, they were loved.”
The 28 Years Later star also discussed her appreciation for costume design in film and television, saying she particularly enjoys period wardrobes that help her step into character.
“I do enjoy a period costume because I think it really helps transport you,” she said, adding that she would be especially interested in exploring roles set in the 1960s or 1970s.
Comer noted that costumes play an important role in helping her separate from her everyday identity while working on set.
Looking ahead, Comer will next appear alongside Hugh Jackman in The Death of Robin Hood, which was filmed in Northern Ireland.
She described the experience of shooting on location as rewarding, despite joking that her diet during production — including raw milk and homemade bread — didn’t always agree with her skin.
