Dwayne Johnson recalls frightening health concern before receiving diagnosis

Dwayne Johnson has opened up about a painful health scare that left him fearing the worst, revealing he spent an anxious day waiting for medical answers after discovering a lump during a shower.

The actor and former professional wrestler shared the experience in a recent interview with Esquire, reflecting on the uncertainty he faced before doctors determined the condition was not serious.

Johnson, 54, said he first noticed the lump while promoting one of his films and immediately scheduled a doctor's appointment. Despite his concerns, he chose not to tell his wife, Lauren Hashian, until he had more information.

“I didn’t even tell my wife Lauren,” Johnson said, explaining that he did not want to worry her before learning exactly what was wrong.

After examining him, doctors suggested the issue was likely epididymitis, an inflammation of the tube located at the back of the testicle. However, Johnson was advised to undergo an ultrasound to confirm the diagnosis.

The waiting period proved particularly difficult for the Hollywood star, who still had public appearances and promotional commitments to fulfill while dealing with uncertainty about his health.

“I had to live with that for those twenty-four hours, not knowing, and I had to be on all day, joking around, making speeches,” he recalled.

The Moana star admitted the experience was both physically painful and emotionally challenging, as he struggled to remain focused on work while awaiting test results.

Fortunately, the ultrasound confirmed doctors' initial assessment, and Johnson later learned the condition was indeed epididymitis.

“I’m fine now,” he said, adding that the diagnosis ultimately brought relief after a period of intense anxiety.

The actor's candid revelation offers a glimpse into a private struggle behind the scenes, highlighting how even some of Hollywood's biggest stars can face moments of fear and vulnerability when it comes to their health.

Johnson is currently preparing for the release of Disney's live-action adaptation of Moana, in which he reprises his beloved role as Maui from the animated blockbuster.
