Ben Stiller to release multi-part Knicks documentary with A24, HBO

New York Knicks superfan Ben Stiller revealed that his frequent courtside phone recordings during the NBA Finals were part of a new documentary project about the team.

The actor and filmmaker confirmed the news on The Roommates Show, explaining that he is officially developing a multi-part documentary on the Knicks in collaboration with HBO, A24, Madison Square Garden, and the NBA.

“I’m really excited to announce that we are officially making a documentary about the New York Knicks for HBO,” Stiller said. “And doing it with A24 and official cooperation of MSG and the NBA.”

Stiller, who has been a longtime visible supporter of the franchise, said he had already begun capturing footage during the team’s playoff run, often using his phone while sitting courtside.

“I’ve been shooting some stuff on my phone,” he said, adding that this explained why he appeared to be recording so frequently during games.

Documentary to cover Knicks across multiple eras

Stiller said the project will not only focus on the current championship-winning roster but also trace the broader history of the franchise.

“It’s kind of gonna be about all eras of the Knicks,” he said. “And this team, obviously, there’s a culmination here of something that has been going on for a long time.”

He added that filming will continue over the next year, with additional access planned during the upcoming season.

The Zoolander star said he plans to interview players including Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, as well as other members of the championship roster.

He noted that production officially began just before the playoffs and will expand following the Knicks’ historic NBA Finals run.

The project is expected to be released as a multi-part documentary series, according to reporting from The Hollywood Reporter.

Stiller has long been one of the most recognizable celebrity fans of the Knicks, frequently attending games alongside figures such as Spike Lee, Timothée Chalamet, and Mariska Hargitay during the team’s championship season.
