Lady Marina Windsor weds in low-key UK church ceremony

Lady Marina Windsor married Nico Macauley in a low-key ceremony this weekend. The 33-year-old bride, granddaughter of the Duke of Kent, wed her 32-year-old groom at a church in the United Kingdom, surrounded by close relatives and friends.

The couple had revealed their engagement last summer, with Lady Marina sharing the news on Instagram alongside photographs displaying her ring. Her grandfather, the Duke of Kent, was among the family members present to witness the nuptials.

Groom descended from newspaper magnate

The groom, an account executive at a software company, is descended from newspaper publisher William Berry, First Viscount Camrose.

Bride's gown and historic tiara

Lady Marina chose a bespoke dress by sustainable fashion designer Larissa Von Planta for her walk down the aisle. The elegant white gown was complemented by a veil crafted from antique Habsburg lace, adding historical grandeur to her bridal ensemble.

Most striking was the tiara adorning her head, a piece laden with royal heritage. The headpiece originally belonged to her great-grandmother, Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, who received it from Queen Mary. Lady Helen Taylor had previously worn the same tiara at her 1992 wedding to Timothy Taylor.

Tiara carries emotional significance

The jewellery held particular emotional weight following the death of Lady Marina's grandmother, the Duchess of Kent, last September, aged 92, who had also worn the treasured piece.

The bride's parents, George Windsor, Earl of St Andrews, and Canadian academic Sylvana Tomaselli, watched proudly from the pews as their daughter wed. Her siblings were also present to celebrate, with Lady Amelia Windsor and Lord Downpatrick, known as Eddy, joining the family gathering.

Engagement announced on significant date

Lady Marina announced her engagement on June 8 last year, posting "Very happy!" on social media. The date carried deep significance, marking the anniversary of her grandparents' own wedding in York in 1961. The couple had been together for two years before their engagement, and Lady Marina held her hen do on the Isle of Sheppey in March.

Removed from royal succession in 2008

Lady Marina was once in line to the British throne but was removed from the succession in 2008 after converting to Roman Catholicism at the age of 16. Her grandmother, the Duchess of Kent, shared the same faith, and her funeral at Westminster Cathedral last September marked the first Catholic service for a member of the royal family in modern times. Pope Leo XIV sent a message of condolence that was read during the service.

Second royal wedding in a fortnight

The wedding follows another royal celebration just a fortnight ago, when Peter Phillips, grandson of the late Queen Elizabeth, married nurse Harriet Sperling on June 6.
