Mila Kunis opens up on why her marriage to Ashton Kutcher works
Mila Kunis shares growing up with Ashton Kutcher made their marriage easier
Mila Kunis revealed knowing Ashton Kutcher since their teenage years has helped make their marriage stronger and easier to navigate.
The actress opened up about her relationship during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, explaining that their shared history gave them a unique foundation when they reconnected later in life.
Kunis and Kutcher first met as teenagers while starring together on That ’70s Show, years before they eventually reconnected in their late 20s and began a relationship.
Because of that long history, Kunis said there was no need for a traditional “getting to know you” phase when they got back in touch.
“He knew me through all of them, and I knew him through all of it, through like the good, the bad, the ugly, you know, and vice versa,” she said. “So when we reconnected, there was no getting to know each other… there was nothing to hide.”
Kunis said that shared foundation has shaped their marriage, which began after they wed in 2015 and now includes two children.
“Our fundamentals, our foundation, everything is built on respect because we’ve known each other since I was 14 and he was 19,” she said.
She added that their long history has made it easier to accept personal growth and change within the relationship.
“It’s seeing that people can grow and evolve,” Kunis explained. “We will be able to grow together because we already have.”
Kunis said she doesn’t worry about Kutcher rejecting changes in who she becomes over time.
“He’s not going to go, ‘Well, that’s not the person I married.’ He’ll be like, ‘OK, let’s go for a ride,’” she added.
Other celebrities have also spoken about the importance of evolving within long-term relationships, including Goldie Hawn and Seth Rogen, who have both said that accepting change is key to lasting partnerships.
