San Antonio mayor speaks out against Kanye West show at city-=funded venue

San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones has called for the cancellation of Kanye West’s upcoming concert at the city’s Alamodome, citing concerns over the rapper’s past antisemitic comments and controversial statements.

The rapper, also known as Ye, is scheduled to perform at the city-funded venue on July 4 as part of his ongoing comeback tour.

Jones shared her stance on social media, writing that she supports cancelling the performance and questioning whether the city should host an artist with a history of what she described as hate speech at a public facility.

“Military City USA should not host someone with a record of hate speech and antisemitic comments in a city-funded facility like our Alamodome — not ever, and certainly not on July 4th,” Jones wrote on X.

She added that speaking out against antisemitism is necessary in creating a more inclusive society.

The mayor’s comments follow similar criticism from other officials, including Rick Scott, who previously called for the cancellation of Kanye West’s upcoming performances at Raymond James Stadium.

Scott argued that allowing the shows to continue at a taxpayer-supported venue would send the wrong message to Florida’s Jewish community, pointing to what he described as West’s repeated antisemitic remarks.

Despite the growing backlash, Kanye West’s San Antonio concert remains scheduled at the time of publication, with tickets still available.

The controversy comes as West continues his return to live performances following years of public disputes and criticism surrounding his comments and actions.
