Sam Neill appeared in high spirits at an Australian awards ceremony just weeks before his sudden death, sharing a smiling selfie and behind-the-scenes moments from the event on social media.

The Jurassic Park actor died on July 13 at the age of 78. His family announced his death on Instagram, describing it as "sudden and unexpected" and confirming he was cancer-free at the time.

Neill shared photos from ARIA Hall of Fame Awards

In June, Neill attended the 2026 Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Hall of Fame Awards in Sydney, where he posed for a selfie with singer Kate Ceberano.

He also shared photos with Australian music duo Vika and Linda Bull, singer-songwriter Jenny Morris and former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

Captioning the post, Neill praised the women honoured during the ceremony and described the event as a "great night" in Sydney.

Actor remained active before family announced his death

Days after the awards show, Neill posted videos from his vineyard, sharing updates on his olive harvest. Later in June, he celebrated receiving a Silver Logie nomination for his performance in The Twelve.

Earlier this year, Neill confirmed he remained cancer-free after undergoing treatment for a rare form of blood cancer. He had spoken publicly about his diagnosis and subsequent remission in recent years.

His family announced his death on Monday, saying he died surrounded by loved ones and thanking medical staff for their care while requesting privacy as they mourn his loss.
