'The Ring' star Daveigh Chase leaves $400K estate, court filing reveals
Mother seeks control of late actress' estate after probate filing
Daveigh Chase, best known for starring in The Ring and voicing Lilo in Disney's Lilo & Stitch, left behind about $400,000 in personal property, according to probate documents filed by her mother following the actress' death last month.
Mother files petition to administer estate
Court documents obtained by Page Six show that Cathy Chase has asked the court to appoint her as the administrator of her daughter's estate.
In the filing, Cathy estimated the value of Daveigh Chase's personal property at approximately $400,000. She also stated that the actress' father, John Schwallier, is believed to be living in the Philippines, although his exact address is unknown, and that he owns property in Las Vegas.
According to the filing, Chase was unmarried and had no children.
Medical examiner listed cause of death
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner previously ruled that Chase's primary cause of death was acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The report also listed chronic polysubstance use as a contributing condition.
The actress was 35 when she died last month.
Estate filing follows reports of homelessness
The probate filing comes weeks after reports that Chase had been living on the streets of downtown Los Angeles before her death.
Her alleged boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, launched a GoFundMe campaign seeking financial support during her final days. However, Chase's former manager, John Ryan, urged fans not to donate, claiming the actress had a Screen Actors Guild trust account that could cover funeral expenses.
Ryan also alleged that Chase had millions of dollars in unclaimed residual payments at the time of her death, although that claim has not been confirmed in court records.
Best known for her performances in The Ring, Lilo & Stitch and Donnie Darko, Chase rose to prominence as a child star before stepping away from the spotlight in later years.
