Singer Madonna landed her tenth number one album on the US Billboard 200 chart after her latest studio release, Confessions II, debuted in the top spot. The Queen of Pop took to her Instagram account on Monday to celebrate the music milestone by posting promotional photographs of the record.
Billboard reported that the milestone makes the singer only the fourth artist in history to accumulate ten number-one projects on both the Billboard 200 and the Hot 100 charts. The elite group also includes the Beatles, Taylor Swift, and Drake. Madonna previously earned her first chart-topping album more than 40 years ago with her sophomore record Like a Virgin in 1985.
Following the announcement, the singer shared a social media post expressing surprise and appreciation for the global response to her new material. "Words cannot express how grateful and surprised I am by the incredible reception Confessions on a Dance Floor has received," Madonna wrote. She then thanked her creative team and acknowledged her loyal followers for their positivity.
"Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this and who has helped make this dream come true. Especially my fans," Madonna noted. "The goodwill and positivity have been incredible. I’m still pinching myself. I can’t believe it’s #1 all around the world."
She concluded her statement by stating her primary goal for the new project was to bring happiness and encourage people to dance during the summer months. Confessions II serves as the official follow-up to her 2005 chart-topping dance album Confessions on a Dance Floor.
