Toddler dies in tragic Florida vacation vehicle shooting

Two-year-old Brayden Tennyson was fatally shot on Sunday after his four-year-old cousin discovered an unsecured handgun inside a vehicle during a family trip to Kissimmee, Florida. The tragedy occurred shortly after the family, who travelled from Louisville, Georgia, arrived at their holiday rental home on Scrapbook Street.

People reported that the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the victim died from his injuries after being rushed to a nearby hospital. Investigators revealed that while adult family members were outside unpacking, the toddler was left inside the parked car. His four-year-old cousin subsequently entered the vehicle, located an unsecured and unholstered handgun, and fired a single shot that struck Tennyson. Family members outside heard the gunshot ring out from inside the vehicle and immediately rushed to the scene.

The family had travelled to Central Florida specifically to celebrate Tennyson's third birthday, which was on Tuesday. A GoFundMe campaign organised to assist the grieving mother noted that the day should have been filled with laughter, hugs, and happy memories. Instead, the family has been left devastated by the sudden loss of the young boy.

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office, the Medical Examiner's Office, and the Department of Children and Families are currently collaborating on the investigation. It remains unclear if any criminal charges will be filed against family members in connection with the unsecured weapon. Local authorities have used the tragic incident to remind the public of the critical importance of secure firearm storage to protect young children from accessible weapons.
