Matt Damon reveals daughter's 5-word review of 'The Odyssey'
Matt Damon recalls his daughter's praise made demanding shoot worthwhile
Matt Damon has revealed that a heartfelt five-word review from one of his daughters made the demanding experience of filming The Odyssey worthwhile.
Speaking to PEOPLE, the actor said one of his daughters turned to him after watching the film and said, "Dad, I'm proud of you."
"She's never said anything like that because we joke around a lot," Damon said. "At that point, I was like, 'I'm good.' It was all worth it."
Damon calls The Odyssey his toughest film
Damon, who plays Odysseus in Christopher Nolan's adaptation of Homer's epic poem, described the production as the most physically demanding of his career.
"It was more like an expedition than a movie," he said, recalling long days filming in difficult weather conditions.
"This movie was by far the hardest, the most challenging movie I've ever been a part of."
Family sacrificed during lengthy production
The actor, who shares daughters Alexia, Isabella, Gia and Stella with wife Luciana Damon, said his family also made sacrifices while he spent extended periods away filming.
Speaking at the film's London premiere earlier this month, Damon said he was delighted that all four daughters attended the screening after supporting him throughout the lengthy production.
He added that his children have become experienced travellers because of his work, often joining him while he films overseas.
Actor embraces new chapter of family life
Damon also reflected on entering a new stage of parenthood as his older children become more independent.
The actor said he and his wife are trying to make the most of the remaining years with their younger daughters at home, describing the transition toward an empty nest as a reminder of how quickly family life changes.
The Odyssey is scheduled to open in cinemas on July 16.
