American alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin revealed she is not currently wedding planning with her fiancé, fellow skier Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, following their engagement in 2024. Speaking on Wednesday, ahead of the 2026 ESPYS in New York City, the 31-year-old athlete explained that their active racing careers have paused any immediate nuptial preparations.

PEOPLE reported that the Olympic gold medallist noted the difficulty of coordinating a ceremony whilst both partners are actively competing on the professional circuit. Shiffrin explained that because she and Kilde are not together for most of the year due to their racing schedules, they prefer to focus on spending quality time together. She suggested that serious wedding planning would likely not begin until at least one of them retires from professional skiing.

The couple, who officially confirmed their relationship in 2021, announced their engagement via a joint Instagram post in April 2024. The social media announcement featured photos of the pair in a mountainous setting, with Shiffrin showcasing a diamond engagement ring positioned between two gold bands. Shiffrin recently achieved further sporting success by winning gold in the Slalom at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, while Kilde is a World Cup-winning alpine skier from Norway.

The athletic duo previously spoke about how their shared sporting backgrounds have strengthened their bond. In December 2021, Kilde, 33, expressed how much he valued being able to discuss unique professional experiences with Shiffrin that he could not share with anyone else. He noted that their combined experience in alpine skiing allowed them to help each other improve both personally and professionally.

Shiffrin admitted that because of these career demands, it might still be a little bit of time before they officially tie the knot. The couple attended the ESPY Awards ceremony together on Wednesday evening in New York, posing on the red carpet ahead of the star-studded sports event.
