Professional boxer Hannah Rapp has died at the age of 26 after she was fatally struck by a vehicle while riding her bicycle in Brazos County, Texas. Authorities have arrested a driver in connection with the incident.
According to the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), the collision happened around 10 a.m. local time on Saturday, July 18, when deputies responded to reports of a major crash involving a vehicle and a cyclist on FM 159.
Rapp was treated by emergency responders at the scene before being taken to a local hospital, where she later died despite lifesaving efforts.
Investigators said 31-year-old Charles Medina was arrested and charged with manslaughter following the incident.
Authorities allege Medina had driven past two cyclists before stopping, reversing his vehicle and striking Rapp as she rode along the roadway.
He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Brazos County Detention Center. The investigation remains ongoing.
Rapp, an Indiana native, moved to College Station, Texas, in 2024 to pursue her professional boxing career.
Earlier this year, she challenged Tiara Brown for the World Boxing Council (WBC) women's featherweight title, falling by unanimous decision in the championship bout.
Following news of her death, tributes poured in from across the boxing community.
The WBC described Rapp as a beloved member of the sport, saying the organization was mourning the "painful loss" of a fighter whose dedication and charisma left a lasting impact on the North American Boxing Federation and the wider WBC family.
Her promoter, Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), also paid tribute, calling Rapp a gifted athlete who earned the respect of teammates, coaches and fellow fighters throughout her career.
"Our thoughts are with Hannah's family, friends, teammates, coaches, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time," the promotion said in a statement, adding that her memory would be honored in the weeks ahead.
A GoFundMe campaign launched by a family friend to assist with funeral expenses remembered Rapp as an inspiration who brought "love, laughter and light" to those around her, even during difficult moments.
Authorities believe the fatal collision was an isolated incident as the investigation continues.
