Annette Bening shares the sweet post-filming ritual she enjoys with her mom

Annette Bening has shared the quiet ritual that helps her leave work behind after long days on set, revealing that spending time with her 97-year-old mother is the perfect way to relax.

The 68-year-old actress, who stars in Apple TV+'s thriller Lucky, told People she prefers low-key evenings at home after filming intense scenes.

"It's very cathartic, getting to do some of these things. I really enjoyed it," Bening said of playing crime boss Priscilla in the series.

After wrapping work, however, she enjoys a much calmer routine.

"I go home, watch baseball with my mom, who's 97 and has a martini at 5:30," Bening shared. "Now, I don't have a martini, because I can't handle it. But I have a glass of wine, sit, hang out, see my husband."

The Oscar-nominated actress said staying home has become her favorite way to decompress, especially since her mother, Shirley Bening, has been living with her and husband Warren Beatty for the past few years.

"My mom's lived with me for a few years, and she's a wonderful person," she said. "So just kicking back, especially after that kind of a day."

Bening has previously spoken about her close relationship with her mother, describing her as an "incredible person" following the death of her father, to whom Shirley had been married for 73 years.

She revealed that her mother enjoys spending her days reading, completing crossword puzzles and even reading her film scripts.

"She lives in her pajamas in my house," Bening joked during an earlier interview, adding that Shirley enjoys one martini every evening at 5:30 p.m. — along with potato chips.

Professionally, Bening is currently starring in Lucky, based on Marissa Stapley's bestselling novel.

The crime thriller follows Anya Taylor-Joy's character after a multimillion-dollar heist goes disastrously wrong.

The actress said she was immediately drawn to the project because of its stylish storytelling and acclaimed cast, which also includes Timothy Olyphant, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Clifton Collins Jr. and Drew Starkey.

"It just sounded kind of intriguing, and it was," Bening said.
