Two critically wounded after Minneapolis nightclub shooting on Hennepin Avenue

Nine people sustained injuries during a Minneapolis nightclub shooting outside Reign on Hennepin Avenue in the early hours of July 19. Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the Uptown neighbourhood just before 12:30 a.m. following an altercation outside the venue. A large crowd was present when the shooting occurred, prompting officers from all five city precincts to attend the scene due to the high number of casualties.

FOX 9, KSTP, and CBS Minnesota reported that the city's Firearm Assault Shoot Team launched an investigation into the incident, with preliminary information suggesting that shots may have been fired from a vehicle. According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, law enforcement officers arrived within one minute of receiving emergency calls.

First responders initially located four injured individuals at the scene, including a 20-year-old man who suffered life-threatening injuries, while three others sustained non-life-threatening wounds. Additional victims subsequently arrived at local hospitals for medical treatment. An 18-year-old man sought treatment for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, while a 21-year-old man arrived at a hospital with life-threatening injuries before being transferred to another facility. Three additional men, aged 20, 21, and 22, sought treatment at a separate hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey condemned the violence in a statement shared with media, calling for expanded funding, increased officer recruitment, and enhanced technology to support law enforcement efforts. Frey stated that keeping streets safe required every available tool, partnerships to arrest and prosecute perpetrators, and proven technologies such as drones and ShotSpotter to assist police efficiency.

Local outlets reported that no arrests had been made as of Sunday morning. Investigators continue to examine the scene and evaluate whether the gunfire originated from a vehicle.
