Vivienne Jolie-Pitt filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court to legally drop "Pitt" from her last name. The 18-year-old daughter of actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie requested that her legal name be changed from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie, citing personal reasons in the court documents.

Page Six reported that the middle name Marcheline honours Jolie's late mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who died in 2007 following a battle with ovarian and breast cancer. An anonymous source claimed to the publication that the situation represented deliberate parental alienation. However, another source previously stated that any distance chosen by the children stemmed from pain and harm caused in the past.

The legal filing marks the latest development in an ongoing family rift that followed the high-profile split of Pitt and Jolie in September 2016. The former couple finalised their divorce in December 2024 after more than eight years of legal proceedings. They share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne.

Several of Vivienne Jolie-Pitt's siblings have taken similar actions regarding their names. Shiloh successfully petitioned a Los Angeles court in May 2024 to remove "Pitt" from her surname shortly after turning 18. Maddox filed legal paperwork in May 2026 seeking to drop the name for personal reasons, after previously using "Maddox Jolie" professionally while working as an assistant director on the film Couture.

Zahara filed paperwork on June 9 requesting to legally change her name from Zahara Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Jolie. Knox also used the name "Knox Jolie" on his high school diploma from Fusion Academy in Los Angeles, though he has not filed legal paperwork. Vivienne previously used the name "Vivienne Jolie" in May 2024 in the Playbill credits for the Broadway production of The Outsiders.

Meanwhile, Pax reportedly maintains a relationship with Pitt's extended family despite a strained connection with his father. A source stated that Pax recently attended a family dinner celebrating his cousin's engagement alongside Pitt's sister, Julie Pitt Neal, and other paternal relatives.
